Odour Covers

DSA was involved in the design of the odour covers at the Caboolture STP. The covers had a free span of 11m and were about 2m wide.

An FEA model was made of the covers to examine the loading conditions during not only the operations but also during installation. FEA provides a powerful tool for examining the stress and strain within structures. During this analysis, two areas of concern were noted; deflection on the centre walls during installation would make bolting of the flanges impossible, and high stresses where the sloping ends meet the channel. As a result of this analysis, a tie rod was included in the design to limit wall deflection, and extra laminations were added to the high-stress points.
