Rectangular Tanks

DSA was contacted in response to large deformations which were observed during hydro testing of rectangular tanks. After an on-site inspection, DSA designed a repair for these tanks which would have made them fit for service.

Discussions revealed on-site repairs would not be practical with the client, the decision was made to rebuild the tanks from scratch.

DSA was engaged by CRS Water to provide the design for these new tanks, which was done by analytical methods and with the use of Strand7 (FEA).

In total there were 7 tanks of 4 different sizes and configurations. The installation was as part of a water treatment facility on the Groote Eyelandt Mining Facility (GEMCO). The different types of tanks were 2x Aeration Tanks, 2x Anoxic Tanks, 2x Clarifier Tanks, and 1x Chlorine Contact tank. The largest of these was the Aeration tanks, a rectangular construction at approximately 9x3x4 (LxWxH). The Clarifier Tanks were also unique in that they had a dual truncated pyramid base arrangement, supported on legs.
